Digital Infrastructure
Goal
The digital infrastructure research enables a standard, industry-wide framework for nuclear plants to achieve digital modernization. This multi-level framework enables the nuclear industry to maximize the use of data architecture and analytics applications which leads to reduced operations and maintenance costs. Developing a clear understanding of the plant digital infrastructure, combined with research involving human and technology integration, enables technology solutions that result in reduced operating costs. Digital infrastructure is designed to address hardware and software obsolescence while maximizing the reuse of intellectual property investments.
Outcome
The digital infrastructure will create a multi-layered, sustainable digital foundation to enable plant modernization. The digital infrastructure is composed of many constituents. Each constituent optimizes safety, reliability or economic performance. But when implemented as a whole, the infrastructure multiplies constituents’ positive outcomes and creates even better global results.
Produced a business case analysis for a digital infrastructure implementation at a target nuclear facility.
Planned major accomplishments
- Development of anomaly detection for use in operations, monitoring, and diagnostics centers of nuclear utilities.
- Demonstration showcasing how artificial intelligence can assist utilities in inspections.
