Risk-Informed Plant Health and Asset Management

Goal

To develop better analytical methods and tools for the nuclear power industry to make risk-informed decisions regarding of plant equipment reliability and asset management.

Researchers will develop data analytics tools coupled with risk-informed methods to manage and optimize plant-asset life cycles, budgets, and schedules. These tools and methods enhance the plant operator's ability to manage the performance and health of a nuclear power facility while reducing labor and equipment costs.

Outcome

The research area will produce risk-analysis tools designed to decrease the operational cost and enhance the safety of nuclear power plants in the short-term (for maintenance optimization) and the long-term (during periods of subsequent license renewal). The software and supporting tools will be available to utilities and vendors that are considering extended operations.

Planned Major Accomplishments

  • Deploy developed and tested knowledge extraction methods from plant records.

  • Develop integration of model-based systems engineering tools and models with machine learning and artificial intelligence methods.

  • Develop computer-based reasoning methods based on plant data and model-based systems engineering models.
